Below - third grade students and First Communicants from St. Mary School and from the Religious Education Program took part in May Crowning of the Blessed Mother in church and in the Sunken Garden on parish grounds on Sunday May 5, 2013.
Below - third grade First Communicants took part in May Crowning on Sunday, May 6, 2012 in church and in the Sunken Garden outside after Mass. Parents and family members of the First Communicants were candle bearers during the procession into church and then led the children into the garden.
A May Crowning of the Blessed Mother statue by the First Communicants from St. Mary Parish in Griffith took place on Mother's Day, May 8, 2011. During the 9:30 a.m. Mass, the children crowned the International Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady of Fatima which briefly visited St. Mary's and continues traveling to other churches in the Diocese of Gary in May. After Mass, the children were led in procession to the Sunken Garden outside of church by the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and the children's parents holding candles. In the photo below, Religious Education student Christian O'Brien, standing to the right of statue, placed a wreath of flowers on the Blessed Mother statue, assisted by St. Mary School student Erica Danielewicz, left of the statue, holding the satin pillow which held the wreath.
